The defence ministry of the government of India found itself defenceless … against its army chief. I was born in 1951, he claims, based on his school records; no, you were born in 1950, says the ministry …

Due to an error in the records early in his career, about four decades ago, the present chief of the Indian army has been juggling with two dates of birth. How can a person be asked to ‘go with a date’ when it pertains to birth! You can only be born once, right? Funny how the ministry got it wrong!! The Supreme Court has asked the GoI to revoke its order asking the army chief to ‘accept’ 1950 as the year of his birth.
